Facebook launches Profile Guard in India

Facebook profile pictures is a way to help people find you on the Facebook. Therefore, so many people don't like uploading their picture on facebook. For example, so many women in India do not feel comfortable with their pictures on the platform due to photo theft.

However, some days ago, Facebook announced a new feature called Profile guard to users in India to keep their profile pictures secure.

Profile Guard is designed to help people keep their profile picture secure and it was created in partnership with various Indian safety organizations like Centre for Social Research, Learning Links Foundation, Breakthrough and Youth Ki Awaaz. Here are a few things that will happen when you enable your Profile Guard

  • Strangers will not be able to tag themselves or anyone else in your photos.
  • Others will not be able to download, share or message your profile pictures.
  • Facebook will display a shield icon at the bottom of your picture and a blue border around the edge. This would serve as a visual cue of protection for your profile picture.
  •  Facebook will prevent people from taking screenshots of your profile picture (this is currently available for Android only).
Facebook states that it is exploring ways to make it easier for people to add other designs to their profile pictures. According to Facebook, these extra design layers, including the shield and border, are a strong deterrent against copying. Also the social media giants stated that these measures bring about a reduction rate of up to 75 percent.

 However, these privacy concerns everybody. Presently, there has been no word on where this feature might come up next. Profile Guard will be released worldwide soon because is a useful feature.
